Ryan Burke is a Director at Schmidt Futures. In this role, she builds a vision for Schmidt Futures’ overall network, looks for ways for the many communities the organization builds to reinforce and support one another, and looks for ways to provide more support to the network as a whole.
Prior to Schmidt Futures, Ryan served for three years in the Obama White House as a Senior Policy Advisor and Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy in National Economic Council. In this role, she drove the President’s workforce development agenda, including spearheading the design and launch of TechHire, a campaign to use innovative training and hiring models to get more Americans into well-paying tech jobs; reducing unnecessary regulatory barriers to worker mobility such as occupational licenses; and shifting to more performance-based funding models for higher education. Ryan was recognized by Forbes 30 Under 30 for her work in the Obama Administration.
After the Administration, Ryan attended a coding school where she gained skills such as a full-stack web developer, and is continuing to apprentice as a software developer at WeWork. She also advises organizations on issues at the intersection of technology and economic mobility. Previously, Ryan worked at Hope Street Group, McKinsey & Co., and Lehman Brothers.
